Two new windfarms announced
by Scottish Executive

The Scottish Executive announced on 6th October that the go ahead has been given for two major windfarm projects.

  • On Braes of Doune near Dunblane, 49 turbines will be built by Airtricity, producing up to 98 megawatts of electricity.

  • At Farr near Tomatin, the facility to be built by npower Renewable will generate up to 112.5 megawatts of electricity from 40 turbines.

The same day, The Executive announced plans to create a new advisory forum to help shape Scottish planning guidelines for renewables developments. The forum would bring together experts across Scotland with an interest in renewable energy to further develop what the Deputy Enterprise Minister Allan Wilson described as already robust planning guidelines.

In The Enterprise and Culture Committee's Renewable Energy report issued in June, the Committee found that 'The Executive should change its approach and develop a national strategic framework for wind farm applications'.     more
