Mountain Weather Services

The MCofS welcomes the decision by the Scottish Executive to fund the Mountain Weather Information Service, announced on 27th July 2007.

This will be the first publicly funded comprehensive mountain weather forecast service for outdoor users in Scotland and it will be a major resource in promoting the safety and enjoyment of all who go into the outdoors.

The Scottish Executive announcement

Mary Webster, Chair of the Scottish Mountain Safety Forum (SMSF), applauded the efforts of both the SMSF and the Mountaineering Council of Scotland in working for the last three years to secure funding for the Mountain Weather Information Service.

She said:

This is great news for hillwalkers and climbers throughout Scotland and it is important to recognise all the work that has gone on behind the scenes during the last few years to help develop the service and state the case for public funding
