The State of Scottish Climbing

Issue 25 of The Scottish Mountaineer includes a number of articles looking at the evolving ethics of the sport of climbing in Scotland, and seeking members views on what the future ought to hold. The articles are reproduced here. They include REVISED DRAFTs of the various codes / guidance the MCofS have previously adopted for bolting, summer and winter climbing. Please take time to read the articles and the comments accompanying them and send your considered views on the new draft guidance to the MCofS, using the form at the foot of this page.

The newly developed Lower Lednock Cliffs. Dismissed by many as a trad venue, now a roadside low level sports venue offering lines in the lower to mid grades. Past bolts 'policy' attempted to restrict such development to cutting edge grades.
