Just before Christmas a meeting took place at Loch Tollaidh Crags between Gairloch Estate, the forestry contractors and local climbers. As the group walked around the crags, the planting proposals were explained by the contractors. It was emphasised by them that it is not the intention to plant up to the base of the crags, and that most of the trees planted in front of the crags would be low-growing, broad-leaved species which should not cause shading of the rock faces. The original route, from the stile over the deer fence to the crags, was pointed out by the climbers who subsequently marked it to avoid planting and ensure access would not be impeded. The climbers were also given the opportunity to mark other sensitive areas and routes down from the crags. |
