The publishing arm of the Scottish Mountaineering Club has ventured into the world of electronic publishing, as it has made available A History of Glenmore Lodge a detailed study of Scotlands National Outdoor Training Centre by I D S Thomson. The book (271 pages, 53 pictures) is available to download in PDF format from the SMC website. It requires a password to be purchased over the net to be able to read it. The book can then be read on screen, searched or have bits printed out as required. The cost of the book is £5.00, and payment is made online by credit card through the Paypal system well known to users of the Ebay auction sites. The SMC is trying e-publishing as a way to make available books which it might not be economic to publish on paper, and has plans to release more. The next two to be available will be re-issues of The Cairngorms Scene and Unseen by Sydney Scroggie and A Century of Scottish Mountaineering, which are no longer available in the shops. A History of Glenmore Lodge can be obtained from the SMC website. |
