The MCofS, through the pages of the Pitch-in and the Scottish Mountaineer magazine, have been encouraging debate on the issue of mountain memorials for a few years now. This has helped us in our deliberations on the issue regarding Ben Nevis through Kevin Howett - as one of the Directors of the Nevis Partnership (NP) and representing the Mountaineering Council of Scotland on that body.

The NP agreed to remove virtually all the current memorials from Ben Nevis's slopes and place them in a 'virtual' Book of Remembrance on the NP website. People wishing to leave something for their loved ones on Ben Nevis in the future will be encouraged to use this virtual book instead.

All the existing plaques on the mountain have now been added to the Virtual Book of Remembrance.It can be viewed on the NP website at: www.nevispartnership.co.uk/memorials.asp
