The Mountaineering Council of Scotland

Ben Nevis without Hands and Feet

On June 18th this year, Jamie Andrew, who lost his hands and feet to frostbite following a mountaineering accident in February 1999, became the first quadruple amputee to climb Ben Nevis, Scotland’s highest mountain. This involved about 4400 feet of ascent (and descent) over rough ground. He completed this stern test of his strength and endurance, taking 6 hours to reach the summit.

Half the funds raised will benefit the Across Trust (Registered Charity 265540) in the purchase of a new Jumbulance – a unique vehicle costing £250,000 which will provide holidays for very sick and severely disabled people throughout the UK and Europe.

The other half of the money will go to The Red Cross to provide relief for victims of landmines throughout the world.

If you fancy sponsoring Jamie and helping out either or both of these worthy causes, then he can be e-mailed on jamie@bennevis2000.fsnet.co.uk.
