Applying for an Expedition Grant

 1.   MOUNTAINEERING COUNCIL of SCOTLAND GRANT CRITERIA

The MCofS will award grants to expeditions whose objective is one of excellence and adventure, whether they be first ascents or first free ascents of routes in the greater ranges and little or unexplored mountain areas of the world, or similar pure rock or pure ice climbs in less remote settings but which are nonetheless worthy of international recognition. The minimum number of expedition members will be 2 (two).

 2.   APPLICATION PROCEDURE

Applications for MCofS grants can be directed either via the Mount Everest Federation (if an MEF grant is also sought - please tick the BMC/MCofS box on the MEF application form) or directly to the MCofS (enclosed application form or if requested, can submit the application on disc - Microsoft Word 3.1).
Applications should be made not less than 3 months prior to the trip but before the deadline of March 1st in the year of the expedition. The MCofS screening committee will reserve the right to interview applicants where necessary. Such interviews will occur in the month of March or April.
Expeditions applying direct to MCofS but who require official BMC approval to obtain permits from host countries should make a separate application to the BMC for this.
