The Mountaineering Council of Scotland

VOLUNTEERING:
MCofS is looking for the following volunteers
with specific expertise

If you have an interest in hill-walking, mountaineering, climbing, or simply love the Scottish hills, volunteering with the MCofS is a great way to put something back into your sport or activity, and contribute to the future of the organisation which represents the interests of members who enjoy the Scottish mountains.

Committee work usually requires participation in four evening meetings per year – held at our Perth offices. There are other opportunities to contribute through individual projects or ad-hoc working-groups.

In return, we offer the chance to work alongside a committed group including staff, volunteers and other mountaineers who enjoy Scotland's mountains. We offer volunteers reimbursement of travelling and other out-of-pocket expenses incurred on MCofS work.

If you would like to discuss how you can get involved, please call David Gibson, Senior Officer on 01738 493 947 or email davidg@mountaineering-scotland.org.uk

We would prefer volunteers to be members of the MCofS, but this is not essential.

More about volunteering with MCofS

Could you help with any of these?

  • Planning System Experience Wanted For the Access & Conservation Committee
The MCofS Access & Conservation Committee is looking for a volunteer who has experience with the planning system in Scotland.

  • Volunteer Sub-Editor Required for The Scottish Mountaineer
The Scottish Mountaineer is the quarterly newsletter of the Mountaineering Council of Scotland, with a circulation of nearly 15,000. Due to the expansion of the magazine, a unique opportunity has arisen for a volunteer Sub-Editor to work with our Editor, Kevin Howett, on a regular basis. We need someone with relevant experience, who can assist Kevin with editing and proof reading articles, and other duties dependent upon the time available.

  • Experienced with Youtube?
MCofS is looking for a volunteer to help spread the message about Mountain Safety by taking edited highlights of our DVDs and putting them on to the Youtube website. If you feel you have the necessary skills and would like to help our mountain safety work in this way, please contact David Gibson, Senior Officer, in the first instance.

  • Volunteers Wanted to Visit Hot-Spots!
We need enthusiastic volunteer members to visit some exciting climbing, hill walking and skiing hot-spots this winter. Were not talking about El Capitan, or the Atlas Mountains, but locations such as Glencoe, the Ben, Coire Cas, and popular indoor climbing walls.

We have received a grant from The Sports Marketing Trust which enables us to conduct research with people who are not members of the MCofS. We want to find out if non-members have heard about the MCofS, if so what they think and what may induce them to join. Enthusiastic volunteers aged 18 or over are needed to distribute questionnaires at popular venues. No interviewing will be necessary. Volunteers will be expected to drive to and from the venue, and collect completed questionnaires on the same day.

Volunteers returning a minimum number of questionnaires will each receive a free copy of the new Harvey British Mountain Maps XT40 Ben Nevis and Glen Coe 1: 40000 map with a retail value of £12.95 (more). We will also reimburse travel expenses.
