The Mountaineering Council of Scotland

POLICIES of the MCofS

The MCofS has over the years formalised its approach to different issues that are of concern, as a series of "Policies". These form the basis of the views expressed by the MCofS across the full range of its activities and they have all been agreed by our members at Annual General Meetings. They are therefore the 'policy' view of our membership and the guiding ethic to which we work.

In 1998 we produced all the policies in one document for the first time containing the following:
  • Access and Conservation
  • Forestry
  • Development in Mountain Areas
  • Footpaths and Erosion
  • Hill Tracks and Vehicles
  • Skiing
  • Bolts and Rock Climbing
  • Safety
  • Mountain Rescue
  • Climbing Walls and Competitions
  • Mountaineering Huts.

The MCofS has a policy towards
developments in mountain areas.

Since the publication of the "Policies Book" we have developed a view on transport developments and how they relate to mountaineering and hill walking.
