Come-and-try-it Climbing - ½ day session For non climbers wishing to try it. On the indoor wall or outdoor tower. Families with children welcome. All gear provided.
- Coaching in Rock Climbing - ½ day session - 9.30am & 12.30pm
For those climbing at any grade wishing to fine-tune their technique
- Coaching in Winter Climbing - ½ day session
For those climbing at any grade. Using the dry-tooling indoor wall and the outside tower. Technical gear provided.
- Tying on and Belaying - 1½hr session - 9.00am
Essential for anyone starting out in summer or winter in the store area
- The Assisted Hoist - 1½hr session - 10.30am
Getting out of trouble in the climbing wall
- Protecting the abseil - 1½hr session - 12.30pm
Personal abseil protection and stacking
- Lovely Toys for Girls & Boys - 1½hr session - 2.00pm
All those fancy new climbing devices
- Holding a Fall - 1½hr session - 9.00am
Practice holding a climbing leader fall on the outdoor tower (weather dependent: only if dry)
- An Introduction to Classic Scrambling - All Day Session
Ridges and Aretes in the Cairngorms
- Loch an Eilean Safari - All Day Session
Walk round the National Nature Reserve and over the tops
- Abernethy Walk - All Day Session
A medium day walk from The RSPB Lodge in Abernethy Forest, over Meall a'Buachaille back to Glenmore Lodge
- GPS use & misuse - All Day Session
Participants need a Garmin Etrex (yellow) or Etrex Summit (brown). Some receivers are available to borrow
- Micro Navigation with compasses - ½ day session
How to be accurate with compass navigation. Based outdoors in the grounds of The Lodge
- Digital Mapping - All Day Session
A classroom session on preparing a route with the opportunity to plan and print your own route, then walk it. - more info
Sat Events for Kids
Especially for young mountaineers (aged 7 - 15)
The following FREE activities will be on offer:
- Climb and Abseil
For young climbers with some experience of climbing. Bring your own gear, outdoor clothing and packed lunch.
- Hill Walking and the Outdoor Environment
An introduction to the walking world and the environment.
- A REALrock Weekend Event
An invite to families who attended the REALrock sessions last summer to attend the gathering and get out to experience more 'Lead' climbing with volunteers on both Saturday and Sunday.
Tea/Coffee/cake is available in the Dining Room at 3.15pm
ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING
3.45pm in the Lecture Theatre
Registration is available from 3.30pm

Kingdoms of Experience
With Andrew Grieg & Liz Duff
A celebration of the life and climbs of one of Scotland's most enigmatic climbers - Mal Duff.
Liz met Mal while they worked in the Insurance industry!!(before he became a professional mountaineer). She was the first British female to reach 23,000ft on the Tibetan side of Everest and the first to summit Pumori (24,000ft) with Mal in 1991.
Andrew Grieg is an award-winning Scottish Poet and novelist with 6 collections of poetry and books about Himalayan expeditions. Resident half the year in Orkney (where he writes) he was introduced to climbing by Mal.
