Access and Conservation Trust (ACT)

The Access and Conservation Trust (ACT) aims to promote sustainable access to cliffs, mountains and open countryside by facilitating education and conservation projects that safeguard the access needs of climbers, hill walkers and mountaineers. Generally, applications can be for up to £3000 of funding.

ACT is a charitable trust, established by the Mountaineering Council of Scotland (MofS), British Mountaineering Council, and the Mountaineering Council of Ireland (MCofI).

What does ACT do?

  • Support rural access and conservation projects that protect access and promote sustainable use
  • Educate and raise awareness of conservation issues
  • Inform people about areas of ecological sensitivity
  • Research the benefits and impacts of mountain recreation and tourism
  • Train and support access and conservation volunteers

  • Practical Site Based Work
  • Campaigns and Policy Development
  • Rural Development Initiatives
  • Sustainable Transport Initiatives
  • Information Resources & Publications
  • Research
  • Training & Support for Access Volunteers

As well as ACT, the MCofS continues to promote a charitable trust,
The Henry Hindmarch Access and Conservation Fund
which works to safeguard access to and protect and conserve the hills, crags and mountains of Scotland.
