Access Notes

Glen Doe Access to Carn a'Chuilinn - work in progress
MCofS has received notification that the track up Glen Doe and the area around Loch Carn a'Chuilinn are the access and construction sites for the Glendoe Hydroelectric Scheme, and there has been some concern about walker safety. Construction will continue until February 2009.

Initially we received a very positive enquiry from the contractor Hochtief to discuss the best way of ensuring safe access, and were left with the impression that the “no-entry” type signs would be removed and replaced with polite requests to be careful and to follow the noted alternative routes if possible. We would urge you to act responsibly on the site and be aware that the track it is regularly used by large trucks that may have restricted vision.

We have now been informed that the new signs are to be put up but the original sign, claiming that there is no access beyond the bridge along the track, is to remain.

MCofS is to referring this to the Access Officer Mr Stewart Eastaugh Tel: (01463) 702186. If you have any questions regarding access to the area, please contact him.

Folach, Knoydart - new bridge in place
The Knoydart Foundation Ranger Service advise that the bridge which has been missing at the Folach, Knoydart (on the southern approach to Ladhar Bheinn) has now been replaced with a new one. It is in the same location (grid ref NG792033) as the old one which is still marked on Ordnance Survey maps.

They express their thanks to SNH, the John Muir Trust and all who assisted in the project.
